here into the US has raised quiet a few eyebrows lately, is this a good
thing !, in the long run I hope so, in the short term just copying what you
see is dangerous. What Track Cycling is to Australia the NBL Basketball is to America
so their is an enormous cultural difference attached to the sport and the
structure that develops and supporting it.

I have heard so many times in
the past years, "that
it's just not possible"
when giving performance improvements evaluations on athletes here if they
began using strength specific techniques for Indoor cycling disciplines. While the Planet went
in the late 90's so did the athletes body with lactate production techniques opening a
whole new world for possible performance improvement methods to emerge for a
Indoor Track Cyclist's.
Programs evolved because scientists had all the answerer on how to beat the Blood
Lactate - Muscle Fatigue correlation problem associated with Indoor Track
Cycling disciplines, if your finger did not look like
a pin cushion after training you weren't worth testing, the late 80's and
early 90's change the direction of Indoor Cycling Disciplines because of this component to finally point
us to were we are today, no more revving at 200 rpms and 200 heart rates to
a very controlled powerful delivery of the efforts over much longer
distances at much greater out-put levels at lower Heart rate's. 'Lower
Heart Rates' what happened.
Sports Scientists and
Engineer's gave us the answer
to the developing problems with the constant use of the Indoor facility's but the solutions were often not practical in
the out-put environment for Indoor Cycling Disciplines or
explainable to the athlete, born was the High Performance Departments in the
Institutes to find the
"question" to the answers that
were provided in a practical application to get performance improvements to
the Track its self.
An athlete can perform up to a certain
'intensity' efficiently while accumulating lactate in the blood. This was never
going to change so what did ?.
The manipulation of the word
'intensity' is what changed by changing the ratios of the performance
elements that made up the total intensity to keep the body to the scientific
answer required for Indoor competition. Putting the
Engineer's view of the
Indoor Facility Physics force equation into the
Race Development Program opened a whole new process for producing speed
I had never been a data freak
as it pertains to coaching rather staying with the approach of constantly
trying to mimic the final result to the track itself with Skill, Technique
and the athletes mental focus getting just as much attention as the physical
out-put requirement elements did but now being able to explaining the out-put
data better in non scientific terms with the new tools that were developed
has enhances the ability to target the
Engineer's 3 important elements extremely
effectively and regularly contradicts the athletes long term beliefs of what
is actually an effective workout when translated to the Indoor track events
self as the optimum out-put equation now puts the Lactate Threshold third,
not first in the Fatigue Element sequence for the Indoor specific athlete
targeting International Level Competition because of what happens to a
athlete (or Human subject) put in any conflicting force environment like a
Indoor Track Facility.
The frustrations of trying
do specific workouts to develop the answers were slowly replace with well
designed routine's which developed the athletes body to produce the required
answers while the athletes need to do anything was removed when on the Track
surface its self as the physics equation was now just a simple manipulation
of the athlete pre developed performance elements. The trying hard methods
of constant threshold work were replaced with a very controlled delivery
sequence set of routine's which produced greater and more efficient results
with the maximum ratio's being achieved without the emotional limit feelings
of the threshold intervals being present so the delivery control and execution
now got the full attention of the athlete increasing the skill and technique

Accessing the body's absolute power capacities for competition purposes with the correct
neuromuscular routine's for track cyclists and the methods for structural
strength increase are not all a physical development process but more a
access process and are often misunderstood by coached who specialize
in the methods of development lactate tolerance training for Endurance
Athletes. The mistakes are made in
interpreting the emotional responses as they are very different when the
athlete is place within a Indoor Facility's as the performance fatigues
emotional pain elements are not associated to the usual outdoor lactate failures
emotions as the Indoor Track athlete has Force Failure produced by the
individuals genetic ability to hold a constant force within the arc of the track
its self to accommodate which dramatically effect the maintenance of speed on a
